Born in Strasbourg, François Terrier grew up in La Chaux-de-Fonds. In
1970 he entered the Medical School at the University of Berne, where he also
obtained his specialty training in Radiology at the University Hospital.
Under supervision of his teacher and mentor Prof. W.A. Fuchs, he rapidly
excelled with a successful academic carrier. During his stay as a research
fellow at the University of California, San Francisco he belonged to the
early contributors of the then emerging field of MRI. Here, he concentrated
on the imaging of the kidney. Early in his carrier and at remarkably young
age, he was appointed as chairman of the Division of Diagnostic and
Interventional Radiology at the University Hospital in Geneva. Since this
appointment as full professor in 1990 he was conducive to numerous clinical
and basic research developments of medical imaging techniques for diagnosis
and therapy. His clinical and scientific work decisively contributed to the
increasing international reputation of the Department of Radiology and
Medical Informatics of the University of Geneva. Too early, his successful
carrier and activity came to an abrupt halt.
His professional competence, tolerance, and profound belief in human
dignity, made him an exceptional Head of Department and prominent co-founder
and distinguished project leader of the Co-Me network.
The Co-Me members will bear François Terrier with his dynamic vision and
innovative esprit in warm remembrance.
