New Master Course in Biomedical Engineering

As of the summer semester 2006, the short list of medical engineering education possibilities in Switzerland will be augmented in the canton Berne by a unique master course of studies in Biomedical Engineering. The course of studies is assigned to the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Berne, and is offered in cooperation with the Berne University of Applied Sciences.

This cooperation opens the master course to a wider audience. For the first time graduates from a University of Applied Sciences are able to take university level master studies without additional prerequisites in Switzerland. During the second and third semester of the course a specialization into the focus areas Musculoskeletal System or Microsensor and Actuator Technology takes place. The successful completion of the course of studies allows participants to continue their education towards a Ph. D. degree.

The main target group for this course of studies are full-time students who choose the program in order to earn a master degree. Professionals who work already in medical engineering can take the master course as a means of continuing education. It is possible to complete the studies parallel to a professional occupation.

On top of their specific education, participants in the program will witness product development in the area of biomedical engineering, from first concept to market introduction. The master course thus builds a bridge between academics and industry.
