Edoardo Mazza elected Professor at ETH Zurich
Edoardo Mazza, designated Professor for Mechanics at ETH Zurich.

Congratulations! Edoardo Mazza, member of Co-Me since 2001 and currently leader of two subprojects, has been appointed Associate Professor for Mechanics at the Institute for Mechanical Systems at ETH Zurich.

Edoardo Mazza's research deals with the solution of challenging continuum mechanics problems in modern engineering. Novel experimental techniques and constitutive models are developed for the characterisation of the mechanical behaviour of structures and materials. The mechanical response of soft biological tissues in human organs is investigated by experiments and described with appropriate mathematical models for applications in medicine.

At the Co-Me project Soft tissue modeling: from mechano-biology to real-time simulation, Edoardo Mazza is developing constitutive models of human tissues (uterus, kidney and liver) based on in vivo experiments performed together with various medical doctors. Tissue-engineered constructs will be tested and classified to allow contributors to the mechanical behaviour to be identified and targeted during soft-tissue culturing.
