Co-Me surgical simulation project will be science showcase at the Hannover Messe
Matthias Harders wins a CAOS-International travel fellowship 2006
Testing a first prototype of the hysteroscopy simulator system.

Co-Me researcher Matthias Harders, head of the Virtual Reality in Medicine Group at the Computer Vision Lab of ETH Zurich is in the spotlight as leader of the hysteroscopy simulator project. The simulator system is going to be a highlight of the Swiss presence at the Hannover Messe (April 24-26, 2006). It has been selected for this year as the representative project of ETH Zurich, and will be part of the ETH Board booth. The Hannover Messe is the world's leading exhibition for industrial technology, showcasing trends, innovations and key technologies of tomorrow's industrial world. The event is coordinated by ETH Forschung Live.

Apart from this, Matthias Harders has also recently won the CAOS-International Travel Fellowship 2006 for his current research on augmented reality based medical training systems. The fellowship is awarded annually by the International Society for Computer Assisted Orthopaedic Surgery, and supports research stays at internationally renowned institutes.

In the Co-Me project Virtual-reality based training of medical procedures Matthias Harders focuses on virtual and augmented reality technologies for application in medical education. The core activity of the project is the development of a highly realistic hysteroscopy simulator for training of procedural skills. The work is a joint effort of ETH Zurich, EPFL Lausanne, ZHW Winterthur, and the University Hospital Zurich.
