The NCCR Co-Me is proud to announce that PD Dr. Stephen Ferguson,
Leader of Project 9
and sub-project leader in Project 7
has received the Venia Legendi from the Faculty of Medicine of the
University of Bern.
The topic of his habilitation was "Biomechanics of the
Muskuloskeletal System". His research was supported by NCCR Co-Me
research grants for several years. He already participated in the
first phase of Co-Me by supporting some of the B-projects.
Stephen Ferguson's current research interests include the improved
diagnosis and treatment of osteoporotic fractures in the spine, the
mechanisms of hip joint degeneration, specifically femero-acetabular
impingement, and topics related to understanding the degeneration
processes and eventual biological regeneration of the intervertebral
disc.
All projects involve collaboration with Co-Me partners (ETHZ,
MIRALab, VRLab), the Inselspital, Bern, and several Swiss industry
partners (start-ups, technology developers and larger orthopaedic
companies). In his spare time Stephen Ferguson enjoys hiking and
biking in the great outdoors.
