The NCCR Co-Me congratulates PD Dr. Matthias Harders,
Leader of Project 4. He
has received the Venia Legendi of the ETH Zurich.
The topic of his Venia Legendi was the "Surgical Scene Generation
for Virtual Reality-Based Training in Medicine". His research was
supported by NCCR Co-Me research grants for several years.
The general scope of Matthias Harders' research is the application
of virtual reality based techniques in medicine. This includes for
instance the development of surgical simulator systems with high
fidelity, the application of visuo-haptic augmented reality for the
enhancement of human computer interaction and training, and the
improvement of rendering algorithms for computer haptics.
In Co-Me he has been leading the development of a training system for hysteroscopy
in a collaboration of ETH Zurich, EPF Lausanne, University Hospital
Zurich, and ZHW Winterthur. Next to his passion for the simulation of
medical interventions Matthias Harders enjoys flying airplanes (and arial
photography), as well as spending time playing football or
theater.
