TechDay with Co-Me participation

On October 30, 2007 the first KSL TechDay took place, organized by the Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences (SATW). Some 50 scientists, among them Nobel prize winners Richard Ernst and Heinrich Rohrer, gave lectures and demonstrations.

Co-Me scientists Vartan Kurtcuoglu and Beat Werner participated with three presentations themed Ultraschall: Mit unhörbaren Tönen sehen und operieren. After the presentations giving the theoretical background on how ultrasound works, the students had the opportunity to try out an ultrasound themselves and measure the blood flow of their colleagues. To do so, they were assisted by a professional instructor of Philips. This unique opportunity was very well received by the students, most of them females.

The SATW is planning to organize such TechDays at other high schools in Switzerland as well. The ambition is to motivate high school students to study a technical discipline.
