Venia Legendi for Michael Bajka
Michael Bajka

The NCCR Co-Me is proud to announce that PD Dr. med. Michael Bajka, Leader of Subproject 04/3 Medical expertise has received the Venia Legendi of the Medical Faculty of the University Zurich.

The topic of Michael Bajka's Venia Legendi was the effort of building a high fidelity hysteroscopy simulator based on virtual reality at the Clinic of Gynaecology of the University Hospital Zurich. His research and development work has been supported by NCCR Co-Me research grants for several years.

PD Dr. med. Michael Bajka's major research interest is the integration of the hysteroscopy simulator as a training system into the medical curriculum. His work aimes at achieving the highest possible realism in order to create a reference system, which can serve as a Golden Standard for surgeon performance. So far, the basic components of the simulator have been combined to create an early prototype allowing the resection of a polyp and a myoma by the electric loop in a close-to-real simulated environment. Michael Bajka's contribution to the hysteroscopy simulator is part of a close collaboration oft he Clinic St. Anna, Luzern, the Computer Vision Laboratory of the ETH Zurich, and the Laboratoire de Systemes Robotiques at the EPF Lausanne.
