Junior Professorships for Co-Me researchers Christoph Stieger and Jens Kowal

November 2008 ---  Our congratulations go to Co-Me researchers Dr. Christoph Stieger and Dr. Jens Kowal. They have both been elected to hold Junior-Professorship positions at the recently founded Artificial Organ (ARTORG) Center for Biomedical Engineering Research of the University of Bern.

Steffen Schumann European Finalist at IEEE EMBS

September 2008 ---  Co-Me congratulates Steffen Schumann for his recognition by the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (IEEE EMBS) as Europe Finalist of its 2008 student competition during the annual meeting which was held in Vancouver, Canada, August 20-24, 2008.

Co-Me Leadership Seminar with Monty Roberts: 'Learning with horses - a novel concept for leadership of scientific teams'

18 September 2008 ---  On September 18, Co-Me scientists can profit from a unique opportunity: Monty Roberts, known as 'the man who listens to horses', will give a leadership seminar exclusively for the Co-Me community at horse stable Staffelegg/AG.

4th PSSB Course on September 11-13, 2008 in Bern

August 2008 ---  From September 11-13 the 4th Endoscopic Course for Paranasal Sinus and Skull Base Surgery (PSSB) will take place at the Institute of Anatomy, University of Bern at the Bühlstrasse 26 in Bern. The PSSB provides an excellent, realistic, and fruitful learning environment for all participants. Small groups of two participants will be introduced to different techniques by personal instructors.

Markus Gross appointed Director of Disney Research at ETH Zurich

August 2008 ---  Professor Markus Gross, Head of Computer Graphics Lab at ETH Zurich and Co-Me project leader, has been appointed Director of the new Disney Research Lab at ETH Zurich. The lab will be one of two newly-created industrial laboratories worldwide and the only Disney-related laboratory outside of the United States.

Awards for two Co-Me scientists

Juli 2008 ---  At the CAOS 2008 Meeting in Hong Kong, two Co-Me PhD students have received awards: Nina Kozic was honored for her presentation "Assessment of Anatomical Criteria across Population Using Statistical Shape Models and Level Sets". The award for the Best Technical Poster Presentation went to Matthias Peterhans for his work.

Multiple Awards for Marco Caversaccio

Juni 2008 ---  Co-Me congratulates Prof. Dr. med Marco Caversaccio. He has received the "Lifetime Achievement Award 2008 for Excellence in Computer Aided Surgery around the Head" at the 5th International Conference on Computer Aided Surgery around the Head in Leipzig, Germany.

Virtamed wins venture kick grant

April 2008 ---  Congratulations! Virtamed, the latest start-up company of Co-Me, wins the complete seed capital of CHF130'000 of the venture kick competition.

Steven Ferguson elected co-director to Spinal Research Center

January 2008 ---  The NCCR Co-Me congratulates PD Dr. Stephen Ferguson. He has been elected to co-direct the recently founded Spine Research Center which is part of the Artificial Organ (ARTORG) Center for Biomedical Engineering Research .

New medical technology platform Artificial Organ (ARTORG) Center for Biomedical Engineering Research

January 2008 ---  The Medical Faculty of the University of Bern, together with the University Hospital (Inselspital) and affiliated research institutes have established a medical technology platform termed Artificial Organ (ARTORG) Center for Biomedical Engineering Research.
