4th PSSB Course on September 11-13, 2008 in Bern

From September 11-13 the 4th Endoscopic Course for Paranasal Sinus and Skull Base Surgery (PSSB) will take place at the Institute of Anatomy, University of Bern at the Bühlstrasse 26 in Bern.

The PSSB provides an excellent, realistic, and fruitful learning environment for all participants. Small groups of two participants will be introduced to different techniques by personal instructors.

The course will strongly emphasize anatomical whole-head dissection. Individual dissection sessions will be framed by lectures and live anatomical demonstration. This will cover the theoretical background, the step-by-step guide through the procedures and open discussion with the faculty. As a premiere this year's PSSB will feature five different ENT navigation systems during the workshop on Saturday.

The following topics will be covered by the course:

  • Anatomy
  • Olfactory function
  • CT analysis
  • Powered instruments
  • Computer assisted surgery
  • Anterior-posterior ethmoidectomy
  • Sphenoidotomy
  • Sphenoido-e thmoidectomy
  • Fronto-ethmoidectomy
  • Frontal sinusotomy type II & III
  • Dacryocystorhinostomy
  • Closure of the sphenopalatine artery
  • Decompression of the orbit and the optical nerve
  • Lateral cantholysis
  • CSF leak closure

The course is offered under the direction of the Swiss Rhinology Group in collaboration with the Institute of Anatomy, University of Bern.

It is expected that the Swiss Society of ORL, Head and Neck Surgery will once again grant to the PSSB Course 20 credits for Continuing Medical Education. Definite information about CME crediting will be announced here in due time. For more information visit http://paranasal.swiss-meeting.org
