Congratulations to the team of VirtaMed, a start-up company of the NCCR Co-Me: They won the Swiss Economic Award 2013 in the category Hightech/Biotech. The award ceremony took place on Friday, June 7, during the Swiss Economic Forum 2013, and was broadcasted live on Swiss TV SF1.

VirtaMed's virtual reality simulators provide instructional teaching and training of different diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic interventions. The first simulator has been developed at the ETH Zurich and other Swiss universities as part of a large research effort involving 16 PhD students for a combined 24 years of research. Today, many teaching institutions and medical device companies use VirtaMed's simulators globally for training courses and physician training, 150 simulators have been sold so far.

About the Swiss Economic Award

Since 1999 the Swiss Economic Award has been presented annually to outstanding start-up companies. The aim is to promote the entrepreneurial mindset and the next generation of business leaders in Switzerland. The award-winning start-ups in turn act as role models and motivators, incentivising other potential young entrepreneurs to venture towards independence.
