Dental implant CAS with structural analysis

We have developed a dental implant planning and navigation environment, which includes a method to predict implant stability prior to surgery. This kind of quantitative information is required to allow early loading and to maximise the chance of osseointegration and long-term clinical success. The method utilises an in-house finite element solver that has been integrated into our planning system. Using this solver, fully automatic, patient-specific analysis that predicts the load-carriage and micro-motion at the implant interface is achieved in real-time. The results of laboratory experiments showed that the predicted micro-motion correlates well with experimental results. The additional knowledge offered by this system may help optimising the placement of implants and avoiding exploratory surgery.
