Implementation of planning tools and software components

The pelvic fracture planning software allows for stereoscopic visualisation requiring the surgeon to wear a pair of shuttered glasses. A spacebal facilitates manipulation of the three-dimensional scene.

A number of applications have been realized to assist during diagnosis and treatment planning.

A CT based system for the simulation of interactive pelvic and acetabular fracture reduction benefits from the integration of stereoscopic visualisation and intuitive manipulation of the virtual fragments. Within a validation study the superiority of the implemented approach over the conventional procedure could be demonstrated and its potential as a training tool became apparent.

As another example X-ray based software for the determination and CT based software for the simulation and treatment planning of femoro-acetabular impingement (FAI) has been developed. FAI is a pathology of the hip limiting the joint's range-of-motion and leading to early arthritis.
