Ultrasound-based percutaneous registration

Intra-operative guidance for orthopaedic interventions using a tracked ultrasound probe
Automatic segmentation of bone contours from 2D B-mode ultrasound data

Ultrasound is a very promising modality for intra-operative image acquisition, due to its non-invasiveness and low cost. In this subproject we have developed modules for calibration, detection of bone contours from 1D A-mode and 2D B-mode ultrasound, and registration of ultrasound to pre-operative 3D data sets. Further, we have developed a method for the estimation of bone shape from incomplete data acquired with ultrasound, based on the use of statistical shape models (ultrasound-based bone morphing - cf. subproject 7).
