04/1 VR/AR based surgical simulators

Two main threads will be followed in this task. Firstly, we will continue the development of a reference surgical simulator of highest possible realism. Work will deal with CFD simulation of the distension fluid in the cavum uteri and movement of debris due to this. Moreover, an immersive OR environment will be built, which should also include the connection of the simulator to an anesthesia training system, thus enabling team training. Furthermore, the generic training scene generation thread will be continued.

The first part will be an integration of individual modules into a complete training scene generation tool. This will include modeling of healthy anatomy, pathology generation, tissue collisions and deformation during the growth process, appropriate texture adaptation, inclusion of angiogenesis and evolutionary parameter estimation of soft tissue parameters for pathologies. A key point will be the specification of different cases via medical terminology. Secondly, the research on the Augmented Reality based training system will be continued. The prototype system will be extended to a full application for training in orthopedics.
