09/4 Soft tissue in hip arthroplasty

In orthopaedic surgery planning is mostly based on 3D models describing the bony structures of the region of interest. However, it has been demonstrated that several information, as for example "range of motion", provided by the planning phase are incomplete or even incorrect if the soft tissues surrounding the bones are not taken into account. This sub-project aims at evaluating how to extend the 3D models used for planning purposes to take soft tissue under consideration.

Moreover, as recent studies tend to demonstrate that specific soft tissues, such as the labrum, are not only acting as binding elements but also as sensory inputs to position the joint under consideration in an optimal way, this sub-project will also evaluate the soft tissue modelling from that perspective.
